Troubleshooting

Photos upload very slowly

Slow uploads usually have one of three causes: a slow upload connection, files that are too large, or browser extensions. Check them in order.

1

Measure your upload speed

Open any speed test and check the upload result, not download. That's what limits uploading. At 5 Mbps upload, a batch of 100 photos at 3 MB each takes about 8 minutes.

Make files smaller when you export

In Lightroom, export JPGs with a long edge of about 2500 px and 80 percent quality. The files will weigh 1 to 3 MB instead of 30 MB or more, and that's plenty for selection.

3

Upload in batches and keep the tab open

Batches of a few dozen files are safer than one batch of several hundred. The browser tab must stay open until the progress bar reaches the end.

Check your browser extensions

Ad blockers, VPNs and some antivirus programs can slow down or interrupt uploads. Open Picvelo in a private (incognito) window. If it's faster there, turn your extensions off one by one.

Test in a private window: extensions and cache are off.
